“CHILDREN OF DECADENCE” was written by Alexi Laiho and originally recorded by Children of Bodom on the album “Follow the Reaper” (2000).
Going through the first three albums, it was very difficult to pick one song, since these three works in particular have been very important to us and closely tied to the beginning of our career. So we chose “Children of Decadence,” a song that gave us the chance to fully express ourselves through the music of Alexi Laiho & co., with the right space for each and every one of us — violin included.
At the same time, we didn’t want to spoil such a classic track by making a dull “folk” or “melodic” version just for the sake of adding a personal touch. We simply grabbed our instruments and banged the song as hard and intensely as we could, with the utmost passion and respect for this fundamental metal band, thinking back to the times when we blasted Something Wild, Hatebreeder, and later Follow the Reaper at full volume in our car while driving to the studio every morning for the recording of our demo and then our debut album.
Elvenking’s version will be featured on Reaper Entertainment ’s “A Tribute to the Reaper” and will also be part of an upcoming EK release we’ll be talking about very soon
